Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common virus types in the world. There are many different types of HPV, and the health risks vary depending on the type of virus. Medical research shows that certain high-risk types of HPV are linked to approximately 90% of cervical cancer. Similarly, recent studies show that these same high risk types cause cancers of the mouth, tongue, tonsils, and throat. HPV is now considered to be a separate and serious risk factor for developing cancer in the head and neck.

The OraRisk HPV test can be done by Dr. Whipple and his staff using a sterile saline rinse. The saline is rinsed by the patient and collected and sent to the lab. Lab results will be received by Dr. Whipple and discussed with patients.
