Preventative dental care is essential to a healthy mouth. Even when you think everything is just fine, you need to let a professional see that this is the case. During the routine exam we will look for any changes that have occurred in your mouth including signs of tooth decay, gum disease, bite problems and suspicious areas that need to be tested further. It is recommended that those with a good dental history have a checkup every 6 months while those with periodontal disease be seen every 3-4 months.

Dental X-Rays
Dental X-rays are an essential part of your care. When you are a new patient, we will need to have a baseline x-ray in order to recognize when any changes have occurred in your mouth. Once you are an established patient, x-rays are recommended every 6 months to 3 years, depending on the health of your mouth, family history and the reason for your visit.

Dental Sealants
Sealants help to prevent tooth decay in children and adults. Teeth that are exceptionally grooved or prone to cavities do well with dental sealants. The procedure to apply sealants is very simple as it is simply a tooth colored polymer or glass ionomer that covers the back teeth, typically the molars, to prevent food and drink from penetrating the surface and causing tooth decay.

Gum Disease
Gum disease is a very serious concern for people of all ages. When plaque builds up beneath the gum-line, it can begin to affect the health of your gums and your teeth. Gum disease can cause you to suffer bleeding in the mouth, pain, loose teeth and even heart disease or diabetes. It is most easily prevented by keeping your preventative cleaning appointments, allowing us to remove the plaque and eliminate the risk of gum disease.
